Grant in fee simple by Thomas Frankeleyn of Maydeston, gentleman, and Anne now his wife to Thomas Barham of Bouton Monchelsey, "yoman", for £223 6s. 8d. of a messuage and 40 acres of land, etcetera, called Pettendens in the parish of Sutton Valance (Kent) with a lane leading from a certain forstall called Magsforstall, etc., lately purchased by the said Anne by the name of Anne Smythe of Maydeston, widow, from John West of the same, "yoman", and now occupied by Walter Saker. If Anne should die within a certain period, this grant is to be void on repayment of the above sum of £223 6s. 8d. to Thomas Barham. Made on the 8th of May, 31 Elizabeth [1].
